It simply provides for a better sound which is what many consumers are looking for.

The most advanced type is called a truetone ring. This is basically a song that sounds just like it would if you were listening to it on the radio. You may also hear this type of tone referred to as a voice tone or real tone. The music used is the original piece done by the artist. The usual format for this type of tone is WMA, WAV or MP3. Because most people want a truetone ring today's cellphone manufacturers offer it as a standard feature.

You may wonder why ringtones are so popular. One reason is because they're just more fun than a boring ringing sound. They allow the phone owner to express their individuality. Another reason is because a distinctive ringtone leaves no question as to whose phone is ringing.
