Comparing Monophonic Polyphonic Truetone Ringtones

There are three types of ringtones available today. A ringtone is the music that plays when someone calls you. It is an alternative to the traditional phone ring. The first type is called monophonic. Monophonic tones are the most simple and work with most every cell phone, even the less advanced ones. This type of ring uses a series of varying tones to create a musical sound. While a monophonic ring isn't the most interesting or advanced, it is usually compatible with most all phones even if they don't have all the bells and whistles that high tech mobile phones have.
The next type of ring is called the polyphonic. If your mobile phone is able to play 16 simultaneous tones then you are a good candidate for a polyphonic ring. This type of musical ring is definitely more appealing and melodic than the monophonic type. Most every phone on the market today can support polyphonic rings. The real difference between monophonic and polyphonic phones is that monophonic phones can only play one tone at a time while polyphonic phones can play up to 16. It simply provides for a better sound which is what many consumers are looking for.
The most advanced type is called a truetone ring. This is basically a song that sounds just like it would if you were listening to it on the radio. You may also hear this type of tone referred to as a voice tone or real tone. The music used is the original piece done by the artist. The usual format for this type of tone is WMA, WAV or MP3. Because most people want a truetone ring today's cellphone manufacturers offer it as a standard feature.
You may wonder why ringtones are so popular. One reason is because they're just more fun than a boring ringing sound. They allow the phone owner to express their individuality. Another reason is because a distinctive ringtone leaves no question as to whose phone is ringing. Before the days of the customized ringtone, a phone would ring in a large group and everyone would grab for their phone.
